This document compiles written evidence submitted to the APPG inquiry from a wide range of organisations including the Association of Colleges, Bedales School, School-Home Support and others. Together the submissions paint a consistent picture: school attendance is in crisis (1 in 5 pupils persistently absent; severe absence up 184% since pre-pandemic), teacher retention is deteriorating, and the conditions for joyful learning — curiosity, relationships, relevance, autonomy — are being systematically squeezed by accountability pressure and funding cuts. Several submissions highlight applied and inquiry-based learning as high-impact approaches, and multiple contributors call for a shift from extrinsic to intrinsic motivation as the foundation of genuine engagement. A valuable aggregate of practitioner and sector perspectives that complements the academic research in this hub.
